Buying Freestyle Libre Sensor

The freestyle Libre system is accurate, stable, and consistent over 14 days without the need for finger pricking or calibrations. To obtain a glucose reading, simply perform a quick and painless 1-second scan of your reader over the freestyle Libre sensor.

This easy scan gives you more information without the need for finger pricking. The freestyle Libre sensor is water-resistant and can be worn while bathing, showering, swimming or exercising.

The freestyle Libre sensor continuously measures glucose every minute and saves the glucose data. Scan the sensor at least every 8 hours for a full glycemic profile. The below data is displayed after a typical 1-second scan of the freestyle Libre reader via the sensor.

Buying Freestyle Libre Sensor

The Freestyle Libre Sensor is available in two types: the Freestyle Libre Pro and the Freestyle Libre 14-day.

The Freestyle Libre Pro

A continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) system consisting of a handheld reader, and a glucose sensor worn on your arm. The Sensor uses a very thin filament inserted just under the skin to automatically records glucose level every 15 minutes to provide more insightful patterns.

The reader stays in the clinic where Healthcare Professional will use it to view glucose data. One reader can scan multiple patients, minimize waiting time and scheduling issues.

The device may inaccurately indicate hypoglycemia. The results of the clinical study conducted for this device showed that 40% of the time when the device indicated that user sensor glucose values were at or below 60 mg/dL, user glucose values were in the range of 81-160 mg/dL.

Therefore, interpretation of the FreeStyle Libre Pro Flash Glucose Monitoring System readings should only be based on the trends and patterns analyzed through time using the reports available per the intended use.

Here are some of the properties of FreeStyle Libre Pro sensor:

  • Small, discreet, and comfortable to wear
  • Painless and easy to apply
  • Water resistant so you can shower, swim, bathe and exercise
  • Integrates into daily life
  • Wear for up to 14 days

FreeStyle Libre Pro Reader

The FreeStyle Libre Pro reader have following properties:

  1. Check glucose anytime
Each scan of the reader over the sensor shows a current glucose reading. The reader displays the last 8 hours of data and a trend arrow indicating if glucose is going up, down or staying steady.
  2. More insights
The reader gives you a 24-Hour glucose snapshot including your Time in Target, which can help you make lifestyle changes to better manage your glucose.
  3. Scan through clothing
Use the FreeStyle Libre system and measure glucose discreetly.

The Freestyle Libre 14-day

The FreeStyle Libre 14-day system is a continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) system consisting of the FreeStyle LibreLink app and a glucose sensor worn on the back of the upper arm.

The sensor uses a thin, flexible filament inserted just under the skin to measure glucose levels every minute. Use your smartphone to scan the glucose sensor with a one-second scan to replace fingersticks.

These are some of the key features of this unit:

  • Small size and comfortable to wear

About the size of 2 stacked US quarters, the sensor
may be scanned through clothing.

  • Painless application

Painless and easy to apply. A very thin filament sits just under the skin to measure interstitial fluid.

  • Accurate sensor readings

No fingerstick calibration required, and the system has no interference with medications containing acetaminophen.

  • Water resistant

Stays on the body for up to 14 days, and can be worn while swimming, showering, or exercising.

  • Continuous monitoring

Measures your glucose every minute, and stores glucose readings every 15 minutes.

Getting started with the sensor

  1. Choose the site:

Select an area on the back of your upper arm, avoiding areas with moles, scarring, or recent insulin injections. Select a different site than the one most recently used.

  • Prepare your skin:

Preparing your skin is an important step toward ensuring adhesion. Our sensor adhesion guide in our Support section suggests solutions to help overcome common skin surface conditions.

  • Apply the sensor:

The sensor pack and sensor applicator are packaged as a set. Follow these steps to apply the sensor:

  • Open the sensor pack by peeling off the lid completely. Unscrew the cap from the sensor applicator and set the cap aside.
  • Line up the dark mark on the sensor applicator with the dark mark on the sensor pack. On a hard surface, press down firmly on the sensor applicator until it comes to a stop.
  • Place the sensor applicator over the prepared site and push down firmly until the sensor is in place.
  • Make sure the sensor is secure after application. Put the cap back on the sensor applicator. Discard the used sensor pack and sensor applicator per local regulations.

Please refer to complete application for Applying Your Sensor in the FreeStyle Libre 14-day User’s Manual.
